Started playing the
pipes in 1973 with the Pipes and Drums of Thunder Bay
under the instruction of Alister MacDonald . In 1976
I moved to British Columbia and joined the then
Abbotsford Legion under the instruction of Ian
McDougall . I played with the band ( Abbotsford
Legion/ Abbottsford Police) until it’s folding in
2000, I was the longest serving member with 25 years
.
I then moved east to join the Chilliwack and District
Pipe Band ,where I helped to create the Fraser Valley
Youth Pipe Band .
Highlights – Playing grade 1 at the World pipe band
championships 2 occasions(Abbotsford Police), placing
6th in gr.3A in 2001, the pipe corp placing 3rd
overall in gr 3A in 2003 (with C&D), The Fraser
Valley Youth Pipe band capturing first place in gr 4

I have written several tunes and have been fortunate
enough to have most of them published in Ann Gray’s
collections books 1 and 2 ( Thanks Ann ) as well I
teach several students kids and adults
I help with arranging music writing harmonies etc
Favourite Quotes – I haven’t met a beer I didn’t like
( especially if it is free), and it’s all about the
music , if you play good music the prizes will take
care of themselves.
